Vortigaunt Documents
Introduction
Vortigaunts are a very difficult faction to roleplay in Hl2RP, this faction needs a general knowledge of the Half Life universe, as well as a strong grasp of the English language. Vortigaunts(Vorts) always talk in the third person and never use gender-specific pronouns, due to this roleplaying as a Vortigaunt can be very difficult.
Vortigaunt Canon
Vortigaunts are an alien species found in the universe of Half Life. They are first seen by humans directly after the black mesa incident. The black mesa incident was where black mesa accidentally created a resonance cascade, which then founded a dimensional rift to Xen, a border planet. Xen is the home of the Nihilanth, which managed to enslave the Vortigaunt species years prior to the incident. The Vortigaunts are telepathically controlled by the Nihilanth, and have to do his bidding.
Vortigaunts are sent by the Nihilanth to attack all life on earth. This purge is soon to be held as the main protagonist of Half Life “Gordon Freeman” kills the Nihilanth, setting the Vortigaunts free from their enslavement. Due to this incident, the Vortigaunts are eternally grateful to humans and are pleased that the black mesa incident occurred.
In later years, after the combine advanced to earth and took over after the seven-hour war, Vortigaunts live to serve the human. Some of the Vortigaunts have been captured by the Universal Union and forced to work in the city, they have been chained with combine technology which stops them from using their vortessence or any telepathic abilities.
These Vortigaunts are still grateful for the black mesa incident because the conditions with the union are better than the conditions of Xen. Other Vortigaunts are working with the resistance to take down the union. They live in the same conditions as anti-citizens.
Vortessence
Vortigaunts have vortessence, which is a binding life force to create power from the realms. This can be mastered and harvested by Vortigaunts and used for all different purposes. Vortigaunts live exceptionally long Vortigaunts can live for up to one thousand years. In this time they can master their different skills and can teach younger Vortigaunts. Vortigaunts have three key stages of life, usually which unlock more powers available.
These stages are Student, Wise, and Elder. Elder Vortigaunts are sometimes known to humans as “All-Knowing”. When you join this faction your characters age should be between 200-400 years old. These characters will age accordingly to their stage of life. As a student, your vortessence is present but moderately weak. Using it too much can make theVortigaunt tired and in need of food. Students usually practice healing small wounds and cuts, as well as creating a small amount of light and being able to charge a large beam of power to attack hostiles. These beams of power will greatly affect the Vortigaunts fatigue and can only be used every 3 minutes. (OOC 1 mins). After mastering your skills you may be able to harness this power more and use your Vortigaunt beam more often, in this stage of life you may be known as a wise Vortigaunt. As a wise Vortigaunt your vortessence is stronger so you may be able to heal larger wounds and in large packs of Vortigaunts you are able to teleport humans or fellow Vortigaunts to different parts of the city apart from the HPRs, such as the nexus as they are protected by a field. Your Vortigaunt beam can be used more often and the fatigue is significantly lowered so you can use your beam every(OOC 30 seconds). Elders have fully mastered the power of the vortessence and can teleport a being with the help of little other Vortigaunts, and has fully mastered their vortessence.
S2k is allowed as a Vortigaunt, and you may use your beam more often during this stage, the timing for the Vortigaunt beam is only when passive/hostile roleplay is occurring. Vortigaunts roleplaying using their vortessence must give detailed /mes, and at least 2-3 of them, Vortigaunts cannot power game.
Appearance, Language, and features
Vortigaunts are alien creatures from a different dimension. They have a standard humanoid figure. However with few mutations. They have one large eye and three smaller ones located above, this gives the Vortigaunt great depth precision to have more control over their vortessence. They have two ears, slightly lower than their eye, these ears can send and receive telepathic messages from the Vortigaunts brain as well as normal sound frequencies produced by humans. They have generic teeth which hang out of the mouth due to the lack of bottom teeth. These can sharply dig into different foods.
Vortigaunts have a deep green skin and are rough to touch. They are shorter than humans typically standing at around 5’4. Vortigaunts typically eat headcrabs and other creatures from Xen, but they can also make do with human foods. Vortigaunts are able to tame headcrabs with their vortessence, this can be done with their flux telepathic ability, (OOC they need permission to do this with both Vortigaunt and headcrab). Vortigaunts speak in the third person to humans, and can’t pronounce most complicated words properly. The older the Vortigaunt the better the grasp they have on the English language, they typically speak in more traditional English as that is closer to their native language. The traditional English usually consists of words like (Kinsman = Friend, Male) (This one = Me) (Thee human = The human) They can speak to other Vortigaunts with the /v command, when using this command only other Vortigaunts nearby can hear them.
When using /v, you will still have to use correct grammar, however, you can speak in normal English(not the third person). /flux is a command where Vortigaunts can speak to each other telepathically over long distances, this uses some of the Vortigaunts vortessence and may fatigue them with overuse. Humans can’t see vortigaunts use /flux but can just hear the noise the vortigaunt creates. Vortigaunts can’t grasp the concept of currency, so usually trades with food and items of value.
Roleplay
BIOTIC
To the union, Vortigaunts are the lowest members of society, and if enslaved they are usually used to clean and serve the combine. However, they can branch into other classes, such as the union, CWU and medical. They can then assist these classes as the members like. They can NOT use their vortessence in cwu medical and can’t use /v or /flux. Biotics can be nicknamed by other citizens, however, they should keep contact with humans to a minimum as the union does not approve. Biotics can gain loyalty points and verdict points just like a citizen.
They have to be authorised by an admin to be added onto a faction and they are ranked up accordingly by the faction leader of the one they have joined. Biotics cannot be freed by other citizens and can not enter the D4 zone or other anti-citizen areas. They tend to spend their time in High Priority Regions and main industrial areas.
FREE VORTIGAUNT
As a free Vortigaunt, they help the rebels, they have the same freedom as the rebels. However, they can’t trade tokens as they can not grasp the concept of currency. They can not use weapons and can not be captured and enslaved as a biotic. They usually tend to spend their time helping humans with wounds and battles against the union, they can join bases and resistance groups.
Vortigaunts can develop in stages for how much they train their vortessence. Do not pester admins to get a stage up, the Vortigaunt faction leaders will contact you when you are ready for it.
